Call For Nominations

The ACVSMR Nominating Committee is currently seeking applications from members interested in serving on the Examination Committee. The term of service is for 4 years. The committee is looking for five diplomates to fill the open positions on the Examination Committee.

Purpose:  The Examination Committee is responsible for creating board-certification examination content and organizing and administering core and species-specific examinations. The goal of the committee is to provide clear instructions and expectations for examination preparation and to include valid and defensible content to assess each candidate’s knowledge via the ACVSMR board-certification examinations.
 Activities & Responsibilities:
  • Determine the subject matter to be covered on board-certification examinations based on periodic job analysis surveys of the active diplomates
  • Define the general knowledge base across the core, canine and equine examinations
  • Define examination reading list and provide candidates with clear guidelines about examination content
  • Determine the distribution of examination questions within each subject area based on examination rubrics
  • Maintain a question bank for the core knowledge and species-specific examinations with the services of a professional examination administrator
  • Construct high quality questions as needed to generate new material, which follow the major principles of multiple choice question construction
  • Decide upon the format of the examination questions and test-taking process
  • Develop the core knowledge examination required by all candidates for diplomate status
  • Develop the species-specific examinations in canine and equine sports medicine and rehabilitation required by all candidates for diplomate status
  • Notify candidates of examination specifics, location, dates, and times
  • Administer the examinations at specified locations, dates and times
  • Evaluate the results of the examinations and, if necessary, remove examination questions based on poor metrics and perceived flaws in the question
  • Determine the method for establishing the pass-point for the individual examinations
  • Establish the pass-points for the individual examinations with provided services from a professional testing service
  • Report the results of the examinations to the candidates in a timely manner
  • Develop policies for appeal of examination results and re-examination
